Playoffs? Blackhawks are sucking Chicago back in - NBCSports.com

The Blackhawks are doing it again. They're teasing the city of Chicago after it counted them out a week and a half ago when the organization declared itself sellers at the NHL trade deadline.

But here we are, with less than a month to go in the regular season and Blackhawks fans have been sucked back into believing a potential playoff push is possible. A longshot, but still possible.

After hanging on to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 at the United Center on Thursday, the Blackhawks won their fourth straight game and will look to make it five in a row against the NHL's last-place team in the Detroit Red Wings in less than 24 hours. The optimism is quietly growing within the group.

"Yeah, I think we have a lot of home games that we can really capitalize on," said Alex DeBrincat, who scored twice in Thursday's win. "You look at the standings every night, I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but you see where you are and you see our schedule, we can definitely capitalize on this if we battle each and every night and come ready to play."

The Blackhawks have repeatedly stated they're going to take it one game at a time and not look too far ahead. That's all they can do because the math isn't in their favor. They're four points out of the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference and have four teams to jump.

It's not impossible, but it's a tall order.

"We did what we had to do," head coach Jeremy Colliton said. "It was a big game, a big challenge, and we got the two points, which we needed. Now we've got to find a way to do it again."

Perhaps the most important part of the four-game winning streak is the fact it has the Blackhawks playing meaningful games down the stretch. Nobody is exactly clearing their schedule for May or June, but at least they're giving themselves a chance to make things interesting in the final 15 games.

"It’s fun," Patrick Kane said. "These are big games for us. Fun to play in front of our crowd. Obviously, we have a big one tomorrow, too, and we can really get rolling here."
