Longmont man has trial in machete attack pushed back - Longmont Times-Call

Cesar Marquez (Boulder County Sheriff’s Office)

A Longmont man accused of attacking a woman with a machete had his trial pushed back yet again.

Cesar Ryan Marquez, 33, pleaded not guilty in April to first-degree assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon, second-degree assault, auto trespassing, criminal mischief, three counts of third-degree assault and two counts of possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

Marquez had been set for a five-day trial starting March 14, but that trial date has been canceled and Marquez is now set for trial starting July 25. Marquez also had scheduled trial dates in September and October canceled.

He remains in custody at the Boulder County Jail.

According to an arrest affidavit, Longmont police were called to Longmont United Hospital on June 28, 2020, for a woman with a stab wound to her arm.

The woman told police she had been hanging out with another woman in a parked car in Longmont when Marquez reached into the window and attacked the woman with a machete.

Both women were eventually able to get out of the car, while Marquez got into the car. He drove the vehicle a short distance before he got out and left in another vehicle.

The woman suffered a 2-inch gash on the inside of her forearm and another smaller cut above that.

According to the affidavit, the other woman in the car knew Marquez and said he had previously assaulted her on several occasions.

Marquez also slashed the tires on the woman’s car, according to the affidavit.

A neighbor recorded part of the incident, and police said the video shows a man walking toward a car followed by a loud banging and women screaming.
