A low pressure system to our south could move out into the Atlantic later this week, and we may get tropical again.

Regardless of what happens, eastern North Carolina is expected to get several inches of rain over the second half of the week.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said Monday evening the low pressure system has moved into inland southern Georgia, and is forecast to move northeastward near the coast of the Carolinas and the mid-Atlantic during the next few days.

Some development of this system is possible if the system moves over water in two or three days.

The National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office said Monday that circulation around the area of low pressure will draw deeper moisture north into the area.

That will enhance the coverage and intensity of showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon on Wednesday, Thursday and into Friday morning.

Total rainfall amounts could range from between up to 2.5 to 3.5 inches along the immediate coast.

National Weather Service forecast for Nags Head, as of Monday 9 p.m.
