Possible tropical system heading for Carolina Coast later this week - Port City Daily

NORTH CAROLINA — It has already been a busier than average Atlantic Hurricane Season in 2020 and the trend continues as another tropical system has a chance of heading to Coastal North Carolina mid-week.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has spotted a low-pressure system off the Florida Panhandle that has the chance to develop into something more off the North Carolina coast this week. The system has currently moved back over land and is making its way across the Southeast, but once it reaches the waters of the Atlantic, formation is possible.

“A small low-pressure system has moved inland over the Florida panhandle. The small low is forecast to evolve into a larger low-pressure system and move northeastward, near the coast of the Carolinas. Since the low is currently over land, no development is expected today or tomorrow. However, some development will be possible if the system moves back over water on Wednesday or Thursday,” according to the NHC.

The system, as of right now has a 40% chance of formation but these numbers often fluctuate, so it is worth keeping an eye on the system.

The Atlantic is busy right now with Tropical Storm Edouard making its way east across the ocean (away from the Continental U.S.) and another tropical wave is making its way towards the Windward Islands.
