GEORGETOWN, D.C. — Cookie lovers rejoice because later this summer, New York City's famed Levain Bakery will be opening in Georgetown in the former Johnny Rockets location at 3131 M. St., NW. The location will sell its famous six-ounce monster-sized cookies that people love, particularly the four bestsellers of chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate chocolate chip, dark chocolate peanut butter chip and oatmeal raising cookies. They also will be selling a gluten-free chocolate chip walnut variety along with the new two-chip chocolate chip.
Levain Bakery was created in 1995 by Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald. The started out as a bread shop, then one day they created an ultimate chocolate chip walnut cookie to give them energy while training for a triathlon. They decided to sell a batch in their bakery and according to their website, people fell in love with the cookie and it quickly became a staple at the store. Today Levain Bakery has seven locations with the Georgetown site making the eighth.
