CHICAGO (CBS) — A line of strong storms swept through the Chicago area Sunday night.

The storms were seen near Midway International Airport as of 10 p.m., and were bringing an inch to an inch and a half of rain to the area, CBS 2 Meteorologist Tim McGill reported. The system was weakening as it passed through.

The storms have not been classified officially severe weather, but gusts between 40 and 45 mph could be seen along with brief heavy downpours.

Pouring rain disrupted a Chicago Dogs baseball game in Rosemont Sunday evening.

Earlier in the day, it was not quite “fry and egg on the sidewalk” hot, but temperatures were oppressive.

Temps will be in the 90s, but felt like 100 degrees with humidity.

As forecast the heat index rocketed into the triple digits by early afternoon.

Rain chances linger into Monday, but then we can expect a return to more seasonable warmth next week with highs in the lower to middle 80s.
