If President Trump wants to debate Joe Biden he will have to break into Biden’s basement.
Because Joe Biden is not coming out for a while, no way.
And why should he? He is ahead in the polls; he is raising substantial campaign funds and he is protected by a dishonest media.
It is bad enough that he can barely put two coherent sentences together without losing his train of thought and meandering into space with a thousand-yard stare. He even flubs it when he is reading, or trying to read, words on a teleprompter, as he did again the other day.
Now that he has launched his “Build Back Better” campaign to revive the economy, watch for that slogan to shortly come out as “Better Build Back,” or “Back Build Better,” or something.
While 77, Biden’s age, is not old these days, Biden is an old 77.
It is becoming increasingly clear to his handlers, the media and the public that Trump would demolish Biden in a single one-on-one debate, let alone the three that have been agreed upon.
Biden can barely make sense speaking in a controlled situation with a couple of teleprompters in front of him. Facing Trump one on one in a 90-minute televised debate would be throwing him to the wolves.
That is why Trump-hating newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York Times have begun running columns questioning the importance of debates and whether they should be held at all.
This is the start of a movement to ditch the debates because Biden supporters know they are too much for Biden to handle, both mentally and physically.
Long gone is his adolescent boast that, if he had met Trump in high school, he would have beaten him up. “If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him,” Biden said of Trump in 2018.
As recently as last February, Biden said, “I hope I’ve demonstrated I can take a punch and if I’m our nominee, he’s gonna understand what punches mean.”
Trump may not meet Biden behind the high school gym, but you can rest assured that he is looking forward to meeting Biden on a debate stage, if Biden shows up, that is.
Trump at times also screws up his syntax but his mind is sharp. He is robust, has vast amounts of raw energy and has brutal instincts. He is always looking for a fight, and if he can’t find a fight he starts one. He goes for the jugular.
He has the most important job in the world and, whether you like him or not, he works at it harder than any other modern president ever did.
In contrast Biden, a former vice present, is passive. He has no job and no official responsibilities. He is the only man in America who wears a suit in the basement. He is apparently content to campaign out of there, hoping the fallout from the coronavirus and a less than spectacular economic recovery will help him defeat Trump.
A debate with Trump is a mismatch, which is why Biden supporters are looking for ways to get Biden off the hook.
One way is to use the excuse of the coronavirus pandemic to keep Biden in his basement where he can attack Trump from a safe distance while mumbling about “Build Back Better,” or “Back Better Build,” or whatever.
Another is to pull a debate bait-and-switch on Trump by promising Biden but having Barack Obama suddenly show up instead.
While blatantly unfair, the left-wing media would see it as an innovative and transformative way of campaigning. The media narrative would have a saintly and brave Obama confronting Trump to help his buddy.
Obama could talk about how he and Biden wanted to change America. “I will fundamentally transform America,” Obama will say, quoting himself from 2008 when he was elected president.
Then he will quote Biden who said, “We won’t just rebuild this nation, we’ll transform it.”
Trump’s comeback: “Aren’t you the guy who promised to slow the rise of the oceans and heal the planet?”
“Yes, that’s us.”
“You must have succeeded. Otherwise you would not have bought that $12 million Martha’s Vineyard estate that sits on 29 waterfront acres.”
Build Back Better. Try saying that three times in a row, Joe.
