Good evening… we started the day under sunshine, but debris clouds from t-storms to our west overspread the area this afternoon. The cause for those storms is a slow moving cool front. This front will inch eastward over the next couple of days. This means our warm and dry pattern will switch to a cooler and wet pattern.
As we head into tonight, look for evening clouds. Showers and t-storms will then begin to push into northwestern parts of the viewing area after 9 PM or 10 PM. They won’t arrive in the La Crosse area until after Midnight. Fortunately, these storms will begin to weaken as they approach the area, so the threat for severe weather looks rather low. However, I can’t rule out some gusty winds or even small hail in the stronger storms. They will also be capable of heavy downpours, but they will be moving across the region fast enough that any flood threat looks very low. Look for lows in the middle and upper 60s.
As we head into tomorrow, look for lingering morning showers and t-storms to gradually end. I can’t rule out a few showers and t-storms during the afternoon, however, much of the day may end up dry. Look for highs in the middle 70s to lower 80s.
As we head into tomorrow night, look for showers and t-storms to ramp up once again. However, the exact placement of the storms will be determined where that cool front lies. As a result, we may have to raise or lower rain chances over parts of the area. Fortunately, the threat for severe weather and flooding looks low at this time. However, I can’t rule out a stray strong storm that could produce gusty winds and possibly small hail. Look for lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
Little change is expected Saturday. Expect periods of showers and t-storms. We can expect highs in the 70s.
Looking ahead… our wet pattern will continue through the end of the weekend into next week. As a result, look for occasional bouts of showers and t-storms just about every day next week. At this time, it looks like there will some dry time in between the rain, so no one day should be a complete washout. Once again, the threat for organized severe weather looks low through the period.
As far as temperatures are concerned, look for highs in the middle 70s to lower 80s. However, these temperatures will be highly dependent on daily cloud cover and rain.
Have a great night! –WKBT Cory Malles
