The Catch You Later Foundation has announced the 2020 scholarship winners: two local students from Bayonne.

The Catch You Later Foundation was formed in memory of Tim and Bridget O’Donnell, after a car crash that took their lives in February of 2016. Since its inception the foundation has given more than  $24,000 in scholarships and aid for victims and or survivors who suffered from a 100-percent preventable car crash.

The Catch You Later Foundation visits high schools, corporations, companies, and organizations spreading awareness about distracted and impaired driving.

The two winners were presented their scholarships by 11-year-old Ali O’Donnell. Each scholarship totals $2,000.

The first of this year’s Catch You Later Foundation Scholarship winners is JP Egan of Bayonne. A graduate of St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City and son of Board of Education Trustee Jan Patrick Egan, JP will be studying Political Science at The College of NJ.

The second Catch You Later Foundation scholarship winner is Bayonne resident Ioanna Rigos. Rigos is a graduate of County Prep High School in Jersey City who will be attending Rutgers to study pediatric neurology.

Charity Softball Tournament

In late 2019, the foundation held its first charity softball tournament to raise funds for the scholarship. The tournament was held on First Responder Day on September 14 at 16th Street Park in Bayonne.

The “epic battle” among six teams of First Responders included the Bayonne Fire Department, Bayonne Police Department, McCabe Ambulance, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Port Authority Police softball teams.

The Port Authority Police that came out on top, winning the first ever Catch You Later Foundation Charity Softball Tournament in memory of Tim and Bridget O’Donnell.

All the proceeds that were raised go toward the scholarships that have been distributed in their memory as well as raising awareness of distracted and impaired driving.
