In recent weeks we’ve heard a lot from teachers who are worried about whether it will be safe to go back to the classroom this fall. We’ve also heard a lot from parents who want to keep their kids healthy but at the same time are desperate to get them out of the house. The people we haven’t heard from are the kids themselves.
Sure, there are good reasons people who don’t get to set their own bedtimes aren’t given much of a say in their state’s reopening timeline. But as LG, a reader in Las Vegas, wrote in a recent comment:
“Children don’t have a powerful union or business interests. They don’t have a media strategy. Yet their interests far exceed anyone else’s. They are far more numerous than teachers and stand to lose years of educational and social development from another year of remote learning. They (and the U.S. economy) will feel the effects for their entire lives.”
That’s why we’d like to hear from students. If you have a child in kindergarten through 12th grade, please share their thoughts in the form below. Children 13 and older can fill out the form themselves, but we will need the permission of a parent or guardian before publishing their comments.
How are your kids feeling about returning to school in the fall?
