Bradley Beal becomes first NBA player to score 50 points on back-to-back nights since Kobe Bryant - USA TODAY

On the day the basketball world gathered in Los Angeles to celebrate the life of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, Bradley Beal did something no NBA player has done since the "Black Mamba" himself.

The Washington Wizards guard scored a career-high 55 points, although the Milwaukee Bucks won 137-134 on Monday in overtime. The previous night, in a loss to the Chicago Bulls, Beal poured in 53.

No NBA player had scored 50 points in back-to-back nights since Bryant did it with 60 against the Memphis Grizzlies and 50 against the New Orleans Pelicans on March 22-23, 2007; those two performances made it four straight games with 50 or more points for Bryant.

"Oh man, that’s crazy," Beal said. "Didn’t know that. That’s who Kobe was. That was his drive and that ceremony today just brought the feeling, the tears all back again."

"I was just locked in and I just was having fun. Probably the most fun game I’ve ever played in."

Beal became the first player in franchise history to have back-to-back 50-point games and moved into fourth place on the Wizards' all-time field goals list (4,071). According to ESPN, Beal joined Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain, Houston Rockets guard James Harden and Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker as the only players in NBA history score 50 points in back-to-back games and lose both (Beal became the first to have it happen on consecutive nights).

Bryant's tragic passing has led to Beal discovering a different perspective about basketball.

"It's not about how many points I've scored, it's not about how many All-Star Games I make, it's not about how many All-NBA teams I make because at the end of the day, when I'm gone from here, you guys aren't going to remember that, nor are you going to care," Beal said. "And I feel like that's how we feel with Kobe. So, you know, I feel like the impact that you leave on others and your teammates and everybody around you is what's most important. So I think that's what I take to heart the most and carry that for the rest of my life."
