Texans veteran corner Bradley Roby is expected to back this week after being held out of a road trip and win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday due to disciplinary reasons.
There was a disagreement between the team and Roby regarding coverage schemes and defensive philosophy as well as medical treatment following a knee injury that sidelined him against the Green Bay Packers, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.
"Yes I do expect him to be back in the building," Texans interim coach Romeo Crennel said Monday. "We're working on the game plan and we'll see what the game plan says. I expect him to be back with us."
Signed to a three-year, $36 million contract this offseason, Roby is the Texans' top corner and has one interception this season. The Texans could use Roby in single coverage Sunday against Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry.
"Roby is a good cover guy, I'm not going to say great," Crennel said. "He's been able to hold up against opposing teams' better receivers. To have him back extends our game plan opportunities on defense."
Texans corner Vernon Hargreaves was beaten for a 73-yard touchdown pass by Jaguars wide receiver D.J. Chark on the opening drive. The Jaguars had three wide receivers on the other side and isolated Hargreaves. Safety Lonnie Johnson Jr. wasn't able to catch up with Chark in pursuit after Hargreaves was beaten so badly.
Hargreaves later intercepted rookie quarterback Jake Luton.
"Yeah, he just got outrun on that particular play," Crennel said. "He knew right away that he got outrun and wished he had played off a little bit and given himself a little more space to defend that route.
"Just like you have to do in this game. If you make a mistake, you can't live with that play. You have to put it behind you and go forward and so he went forward in the game and came up with that interception. That helped us quite a bit."
