As reported by Hail Varsity and the Lincoln Journal-Star among others, it appears that Nebraska took in a pretty big visit from a former five star defensive back. Tyreke Johnson entered the transfer portal after redshirting at Ohio State in 2018. He played the past two years on defense including the 2020 season which did not count towards his eligibility.
He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Nebraska has two more scholarships they can use to fill out the roster after giving one to running back walk-on Jaquez Yant. Before the spring game many thought they could go into the transfer portal to look for another quarterback and defensive back.
Scott Frost said he probably was set with the quarterbacks they have and with the news of Tyreke Johnson visiting it appears that they want to add more talent to an already talented defensive back room.
Parker Gabriel wrote that Johnson and Deontai Williams were friends in high school. That should help.
If Nebraska can land Johnson then that would be a pretty big get for this coaching staff.
