N.J weather: Another brutally hot day, but thunderstorms possible later Wednesday - NJ.com

sumurbelakang.blogspot.com

The extreme heat that has blanketed New Jersey is sticking around Wednesday with one big change — a threat of widespread showers and thunderstorms across much of the state starting as soon as this afternoon.

Temperatures will again climb into the upper 90s later Wednesday though the high humidity will make it feel as hot as 107 as the heat wave enters its fourth day in much of New Jersey, the National Weather Service said. Along the Jersey Shore, temps will be in the upper 80s to near 90.

Rain should arrive somewhere between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. but could begin falling as early as 4 p.m., the weather service said in its morning forecast discussion. Precipitation is expected to last from two to five hours before starting to lighten after 10 p.m. While the storms will be scattered, some could bring damaging winds, forecasters say.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. for Mercer, Gloucester, Camden, northwestern Burlington, Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, western Monmouth, eastern Passaic, Hudson, eastern Bergen, Essex and Union counties.

Western Passaic, western Bergen, Sussex, Warren, Ocean, southeastern Bergen, eastern Monmouth and Salem counties are under the a heat advisory, which is less severe — also until 8 p.m.

Newark reached a record-setting 102 degrees on Tuesday — the highest temperature recorded in the city on June 29. The previous record of 100 was set in 1934 and 1959, according to the weather service. The normal high temp in Newark on the date is 86.

It was the first 100-degree day in the state’s largest city since July 19, 2013.

The mercury on Wednesday in Newark is expected to top out at 100, which would beat the June 30 record of 99 established in 1964. AccuWeather.com predicts Newark’s high on Wednesday will be 99 with a heat index of 106.

Trenton reached 93 on Tuesday, well short of the record 100 set in 1934. Wednesday’s forecasted high is 98, which would tie a record established in 1964. The heat index is expected to reach 106.

Forecasters are calling for a high of 86 in Atlantic City.

July 1 rain NJ

Severe thunderstorms are possible across a wide swath of New Jersey on Thursday, July 1, 2021.AccuWeather.com

The long stretch of dry, scorching conditions ends Thursday as forecasters say heavy rain could fall at times. There’s also a threat of thunderstorms and potentially strong winds. It won’t be nearly as hot with temps in the upper 80s and low 90s.

Rain could linger into Friday as temps cool into the upper 70s and low 80s.

The holiday weekend forecast has improved, though. While there’s a chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday, neither day looks to be a washout. Sunday the 4th looks to be the better of the two days with mostly sunny skies and highs of about 80. We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday with highs in the upper 70s.

Monday should be sunny with temps in the low 80s
