GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Phauda Karki, owner of JP International Grocery Store, provides West Michigan shoppers with a taste of Asian food and culture.

The father of four grew up in Bhutan, but he and other ethnic Nepalis fled the country in 1992 because of cultural discrimination. After spending 17 years in a Nepalese refugee camp, Karki moved to the U.S. and settled in Kentwood in 2014.
