PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- A suspect in two Meridian murder cases who escaped from Singing River Hospital last week is back in custody, while the two people accused of assisting in the escape -- one also a murder suspect -- have been charged as accomplices.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said Tuesday that 20-year-old Aceon Ja’Shun Hopkins turned himself in to a family friend in Neshoba County early Tuesday morning, ending a four-day manhunt for the murder suspect.
Hopkins was hospitalized in Pascagoula after being shot during an incident in Moss Point roughly two weeks ago. The shooting remains under investigation by Moss Point police.
Friday morning, Hopkins advised a Jackson County deputy assigned to Hopkins at the hospital he had to use the restroom and then escaped. Surveillance video from a nearby motel shows Hopkins changing out of his hospital gown into a black hoodie with a fleur de lis blanket wrapped around his waist.
Ezell said Hopkins got the clothing from an unlocked car in the hospital parking lot.
Tuesday, Ezell announced -- in addition to Hopkins’ return to custody -- two suspects have now been charged as accomplices in the escape. Breanna Cunningham, 22, is charged with aiding escape, while 27-year-old Keesler Holloway is charged with conspiracy to commit a crime.
Cunningham herself is a suspected murderer, out on bond from Mobile, Ala., at the time of the escape. Holloway was a Singing River Hospital employee who provided information to Cunningham which aided in Hopkins’ escape.
Cunningham’s bond for the escape charge was set at $100,000, but she cannot post bond since the bond for her Mobile murder charge has been revoked. Holloway, meanwhile, had his bond for conspiracy set at $10,000. Both suspects remained in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center as of midday Tuesday.
Ezell said the investigation into the escape continues and additional arrests are possible.
