Volleyball Headed Back Out on the Road - California State University at Bakersfield Athletics - CSU Bakersfield Athletics

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After enjoying the comforts of the Icardo Center for four-straight matches, the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team is headed back out on the road for a short stint away from home. This weekend, the Roadrunners will face off against Big West Conference-leading UC Santa Barbara before closing out the weekend at CSUN.

"We're going on the road this weekend but the focus is the same," said Giovana Melo, Bakersfield's Director of Volleyball. "We want to continue to get better as a team."

CSUB (14-6, 7-5 BWC) is riding the momentum of a four-match win streak into this weekend's action. The `Runners have swept three-consecutive opponents and CSUB has also won 12-straight sets. Another team effort guided Bakersfield to victory, but one `Runner's standout performance was recognized by the Big West as libero Paige Calvin took home weekly Defensive Player of the Week honors.

UC Santa Barbara (15-9, 11-1 BWC) marches into the week tied with Hawai'i (14-6, 11-1 BWC) at the top of the league standings. The Gauchos are on a four-match win streak of their own, after outlasting UC Irvine and UC San Diego on the road last week. When CSUB and UCSB met in early October, the visiting Gauchos handed the `Runners a 3-1 defeat inside the Icardo Center.

Trending in the opposite direction, CSUN (4-18, 3-9 BWC) has been on a four-match skid, but will be looking to right the ship this week. Despite the unfavorable results, the Matadors have only been swept once in their last four losses, pushing teams to the brink. On Oct. 1, CSUN came to Bakersfield and downed CSUB 3-0.

Bakersfield and UCSB will clash on Friday, Nov. 5, in Santa Barbara, Calif. with first serve set for 7 p.m. (PT). `Runner fans can follow along with a live stream via UCSB's athletics website.
