Severe storms will be possible tonight.

A line of severe storms has rolled across west-central Minnesota Friday morning (Aug. 14, 2020) dropping between 0.5 and 2 inches of rain.

A line of thunderstorms is expected to develop Friday afternoon in western Minnesota, moving into eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin during the evening, according to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen.

Numerous severe thunderstorms are possible with this activity. Damaging winds and very large hail are the primary hazards, but a few tornadoes are also possible.

The strongest storms could contain up to 2"-sized hail and isolated tornadoes.

The greatest risk is primarily west of I-35 across central Minnesota.

Stay weather aware tonight.

Hazard: Strong to severe storms with damaging winds, lightning, large hail, and locally heavy rains.

Impact: Thunderstorm winds and large hail can damage trees, power lines, and property. Locally heavy rains could cause areas of localized flooding. Stay weather aware and know where to seek shelter if storms approach your location, especially if you have outdoor plans.
