It was an all-encompassing win for the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. Their 118-111 triumph put them back over .500 and gave them a little early revenge against the visiting Washington Wizards who had beaten them two games before. But it was how they did it that made it even more special as the Hawks went 29-for-29 from the free-throw line.
They also re-discovered their deep ball, going 38.5 percent from downtown as a team with three players shooting 50 percent or better on at least six attempts.
Trae Young led all scorers with 26 points and found his way to the free-throw line 11 times, four in the fourth quarter. John Collins didn’t have a great final line — 12 points, nine rebounds, and six assists — but he was equally as impactful on both ends of the court.
The Atlanta Hawks played complementary basketball to stop their two-game skid
Bogdan Bogdanovic (16 points) and Cam Reddish (15 points) combined to go 7-for-12 from downtown and Clint Capela got back to his double-double ways. De’Andre Hunter chipped in 11 points to give Atlanta a season-high seven players in double figures on the evening.
Still, the best part is the Hawks making the adjustment to the physicality of Washington and making them pay at the free-throw line.
Especially after all of the discourse around Young’s (valid) complaints of missed calls amid players and officials adjusting to the new guidelines. Young had been unaffected up until a couple of games ago. It’s good to see that be the case yet again. Collins also went to the line six times.
