The Eagles don’t compare to the Titans when it comes to running the ball, but a new staff, scheme, and outlook could allow Miles Sanders to finally join an elite company around the NFL.

With Eagles training camp less than three weeks away, we’re taking a look at each positional group by previewing what’s to come.

Today we focus on a talented, but underachieving running back group that could finally breakout under head coach Nick Sirianni and offensive coordinator, Shane Steichen.

Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, Kerryon Johnson, Elijah Holyfield, Jordan Howard, Jason Huntley, Adrian Killins, Kenneth Gainwell.

In 2020, Sanders rushed for 867 yards (5.3 yards per carry), on 164 carries, while also scoring six touchdowns, with three runs of at least 74 yards.

Scott logged 80 carries for 374 yards and 1 touchdown while adding 25 catches for 212 yards and 1 TD as a receiver.

New Faces

Kerryon Johnson — A former second-round pick of the Detroit Lions, Johnson’s production has dwindled as he’s dealt with knee issues. He suffered a sprained left knee in 2018, and a torn meniscus in 2019.

Johnson only carried the ball 52 times last season and there’s no guarantee he’ll play with burst again.

Kenneth Gainwell — The cousin of Fletcher Cox, Gainwell opted out in 2020, but his production in 2019 shows that he’s a “rare breed”.

He can be dominant as a runner or pass catcher and it’ll be imperative for the Eagles to get creative in freeing up the former Memphis star.

Camp Battles

The Eagles will spread the ball and duties around in a similar fashion to the way Indianapolis utilizes three running backs. Kerryon Johnson and Jordan Howard will battle for the big running back role, while Boston Scott and Jason Huntley will battle for carries and catches behind Miles Sanders and Gainwell.

53 man roster candidates

Sanders, Gainwell, Boston Scott, Kerryon Johnson, and Jason Huntley should make the roster and gives Sirianni his most talented group. Elijah Holyfield is a practice squad candidate along with Adrian Killins.
