A 79-year-old White Township man, who was seriously injured in a rollover crash in the township, died early Wednesday morning in St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office reports.

The cause of Irwin Symons’ 12:16 a.m. death was multiple traumatic injuries from the July 18 wreck, the coroner’s office said. His death was ruled an accident.

Symons was behind the wheel of a Kia Sedona minivan that was headed west at 6:06 p.m. July 18 in the 400 block of Hazen Oxford Road when it went off the road along a curve, according to the report from the scene. It crashed through a fence and into a retaining wall, going airborne before rolling back onto its wheels on a property at 416 Hazen Oxford Road, according to the report.

Symons had to be freed from the van by rescue personnel.

Helga Symons, 80, who was a passenger in the minivan, was taken by Oxford Rescue Squad and Hunterdon Medical Center paramedics to St. Luke’s, the report said. Her injuries were not life-threatening, New Jersey State Police said.

Irwin Symons was driven about two and a half miles by St. Luke’s Ambulance to a landing zone set up by Belvidere’s fire company at Tilcon Inc. on Mount Pisgah Avenue in Oxford Township, the report said. He was flown by Atlantic Air Three to the trauma unit at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill, the report said. State police confirmed the airlift.
