How much do you love the Cardinals?
You may not love them as much as Quinn Mortimore, an avid fan and writer for diamond-digest.com.
When word was starting to come out on Friday that the Cardinals were nearing a deal for superstar third baseman Nolan Arenado, Mortimore tweeted, “If we actually get Arenado I’m sending [president of baseball ops John] Mozeliak flowers.”
It took a weekend of hashing out details to finalize the trade on Monday, but two days later, Mortimore followed through on his promise, sending a personal message and floral arrangement to Busch Stadium that read, “I said on Twitter that I would send you flowers if you got Arenado. Thank you. Sincerely, @QuinnSTLCards.”
On Thursday, the Cardinals confirmed reception of the gift.
“I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I thought there was a good chance I wouldn’t hear back from them,” Mortimore wrote in a message to MLB.com. “I’m glad I was wrong about that.”
It is February, after all. Love is in the air.
