Empire Mall's reopening has been delayed to later this week to allow more tenants time to prepare, according to mall staff.
The mall, which had been planned to reopen on May 5, will now open on May 8. It has been closed since March 18.
Simon Property Group, owner of Empire Mall and other malls across the country, began reopening some of the shopping centers on May 1 with various efforts at increasing cleanliness and employee and customer safety.
Measures will include requiring employees, contractors and vendors to check their temperature before coming to work and staying home if they're exhibiting a temperature over 100.4 degrees or flu-like symptoms, while recommending that tenants do the same.
All mall employees will wear protective face masks and be encouraged to wash their hands frequently, with tenants, contractors and vendors recommended to implement similar protocols.
The mall will also aim to use traffic measurement technologies to avoid exceeding a target of one person per 50 square feet of space in the mall, with dividers and social distancing markers implemented as well.
Masks and sanitizing wipes will also be available to any shoppers who request them. Masks are encouraged, but not required, to be worn.
