Storm system, possible snow, forecast for Michigan later this week - MLive.com

sumurbelakang.blogspot.com

A strong storm system hitting the West Coast today will be crossing Michigan by the end of this work week. The storm system will bring a vigorous line of thundershowers, a quick wind gust, colder temperatures and eventually some snow.

Here’s the rain areas forecast from today through Friday.

rain

Rain area and snow area forecasts in six hour increments from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Friday.

You can see the sweeping arc of rain set to come through Michigan. The line of showers and thundershowers will swing through Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening. It’s not a heavy rain since it will only last a few hours at any one spot.

When the thundershowers are moving through, and the cold air is coming in, wind gusts up to 45 mph could occur. This gust front will probably only make those gusts for minutes in an hour sometime late Thursday. If you have a construction project that needs to be protected from high wind gusts, you have today through Wednesday to get the protection done.

Here is the maximum wind gust forecast for this week, with the gusts coming in the second half of Thursday.

gusts

Maximum wind gust forecast(in knots) for Thursday, November 11, 2021. To convert to mph, multiply by 1.1.

Since this is in knots, basically add about five miles per hour, and you’ll get 40 mph gusts.

Temperatures will turn much colder after the cold front passes. Prior to the cold front passing, it will be quite warm for mid-November. Thursday late morning and early afternoon could be in the 60s.

temps

Temperature forecast for 1 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2021

By Friday morning temperatures will have dropped into the 30s, and be accompanied by a 15 mph stiff, cold breeze.

temps

Temperature forecast at 7 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2021

It will be cold enough for lake-effect snow to develop Friday. The snow may be mixed with rain at times during the daytime, but should be all snow at night. This off-and-on snow pattern will continue through Sunday. As a result, most weather models show some snow accumulating across much of Lower Michigan this weekend.

snow

Snow cover forecast for Sunday morning, November 14, 2021

The western Lower Michigan shoreline counties will have the most snow in Lower Michigan, maybe totaling a few inches. It’s too early to get specific. It’s not too early to know you will see some accumulation of the white stuff.

So get ready for a big weather change, and get what you need done this week before snow flies.
