TEMPE — No. 7 Arizona State brought the heat against No. 20 Oklahoma in their home opener Friday night, earning a 22-12 victory at Desert Financial Arena in front of a crowd of 2,228. The Sun Devils had two major decision wins and registered 21 takedowns to Oklahoma's eight in the first dual of the 2021-22 season. The Sun Devils went 7-for-10 tonight against the Sooners, taking the first 6 matches and beating four top-25 wrestlers.

"We put time and energy into being offensive tonight - it's fun to watch," head coach Zeke Jones said. "The crowd was great tonight and we needed them. We got a good group of fans who really care about this program and there's times when we call on them to respond and they always do."
 


 
 
 
 
125 - #4 Brandon Courtney vs #20 Joey Prata
Courtney got the action started early with two two point takedowns in the first. He went into the second up 4-2 and didn't stop. He registered another two point takedown in the second, while Prata got one point back with an escape. Courtney tallied an escape point during the third and earned another point for riding time to earn a 8-3 decision win.
 
 
133 #8 Courtney McGee vs #10 Tony Madrigal
After Madrigal started the match off with a two point takedown, McGee answered back with back-to-back escapes and a two point takedown to take the lead 6-2. McGee added in another escape and two back-to-back takedowns to secure the victory 12-3.
 
141 #18 Jesse Vasquez vs Jacob Butler
Two takedowns in the first put Vasquez up 4-1 after one. Vasquez continued to show his takedown skills in the second, recording two takedowns and one reversal. Butler had three escapes. Another takedown and a point for riding time sent Vasquez home with a 13-5 win.
 
 
149 #7 Kyle Parco vs Mitch Moore
Parco jumped out to an early lead with a two point takedown to take a 2-0 lead at the end of one. Moore tallied a one point escape in the second to pull within one, but it was all Parco in the third. Parco recorded a two point reversal and a two point takedown to solidify at 7-2 victory.
 
151 #4 Jacori Teemer vs #18 Justin Thomas
Teemer started things off with two takedowns in the first, with Thomas registering one escape to put the score at 4-1. Butler had two more escapes in the second, while Teemer continued to stay dominant with another two point takedown and a penalty on Thomas gave Teemer another point. A reversal and a takedown extended Teemer's lead and gave him an 11-5 victory.
 
165 #7 Anthony Valencia vs Troy Mantanona
It was a battle between Valencia and Mantanona. Valencia tallied two takedowns in the first one while Mantanona earned two escapes. In the second, Valencia had another two point takedown, while Mantanona battled back with two one point escapes. Valencia won the match 8-6.
 
174 Zane Coleman vs Anthony Mantanona
Mantanona defeated Coleman 14-1.
 
184 Josh Nummer vs #22 Darrien Roberts
Roberts started the scoring early with a two point takedown to take a 2-0 lead after the end of one. Nummer battled, but a two point reversal by Roberts secured a victory by fall for the Sooners.
 
197 #7 Kordell Norfleet vs #6 Jake Woodley
Things were tied 2-2 after one between Norfleet and Woodley. Norfleet and Woodley both battled for one point escapes to extend the score to three. Woodley registered a two point takedown late in the third. Norfleet ultimately fell 5-3.
 
HWT #4 Cohlton Schultz vs #19 Josh Heindselman
Schultz received one point after Heindselman got called for stalling. After one, Schultz led 2-0. He extended his lead to four, despite Heindeselman earning one point for an escape. Schultz ultimately earned a 4-1 victory.
