City faulted on solar costs, timing
The Sustainability Advisory Board will meet Monday evening and take a look at whether city policies are deterring the installation of solar energy units.
Oshkosh ranks poorly in a comparison with other Wisconsin municipalities in how it handles solar energy requests, both in terms of timing and costs, according to a presentation that will be given to the board.
Some citizens fear that current policy, which requires a conditional use permit to install solar panels, is discouraging residents from using renewable energy and may be discouraging contractors from working in Oshkosh.
City wants liquor licenses back
The city has notified four tavern operators that because of inactivity they will lose their liquor licenses unless they can persuade the Common Council otherwise.
The license holders have been summoned to appear at Tuesday’s council meeting if they want to make the case for keeping licenses that are not currently being used.
City staff believes that it makes sense to take back inactive licenses, which can then be reallocated to businesses that can put the licenses to immediate use.
The council can decide to take the licenses back or allow the holders to keep them if, for example, they have a plan for selling their property or resuming operations. Those who lose their licenses through this process can reapply to get them back.
Notices have been sent to the licensees of Pubs and More at 709 Otter Ave., the Sherman House Bar & Grill at 1029 S. Main St., Witzke’s Tavern at 1700 Oregon Street and what used to be the Brooklyn Grill at 607 S. Main St.
Council to take another look at clearwells
After getting an earful from residents about the city’s plans to build above ground storage tanks for purified water on the shores of Lake Winnebago, the Common Council will take another look at the issue and possible ways to address concerns raised.
School board to get results from staff survey
At its meeting Wednesday, the school board will get the results from a staff survey it commissioned in January after school principals complained about poor communication, weak leadership and low morale.
The survey, developed by Gallup, focuses on employee engagement and what managers can do to make employees feel more connected to their work.
Pollock Pool opens for season
The Pollock Community Waterpark opens Saturday but with modified hours and capacity limits.
Capacity will be limited to 600 patrons initially, but that number may change as COVID conditions change, said City Manager Mark Rohloff.
Another problem is staffing. A shortage of lifeguards may require the city to shut parts of the waterpark down during the season.
The pool is scheduled to be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Aug. 18.
Information about admission prices and season passes can be found on the city’s website.
