The Friends and Family Farmers Market will not return to North Bergen this year, according to the township.

The market was in front of Stan Newman Field, across 64th Street from the Recreation Center. Launched in 2019, the market operated on the last Saturday of every month during summer and fall.

Officials had been looking into the possible return of the market this summer after there was no market in 2020 due to the pandemic, but the pandemic claimed this year’s market as well.

The market is typically sponsored by Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the North Bergen Health Department and was previously funded by a $20,000 grant from the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network (NJHCN) community grants program.

According to the township, the Friends and Family Farmers Market will likely return in 2022.

Another option

Meanwhile, residents will still have access to a farmers market in the township.

The Braddock Park Farmers Market has returned, near the Veterans Memorial area, 5 to 8 p.m. Thursdays until the end of September.

In addition to fresh produce, the market offers a variety of ready-to-eat foods and desserts, along with gift, craft, and boutique items.

There will be different vendors every week. The market continues to look for new vendors. Email Aimeef12@gmail.com for more information.

A flea market, too

The North Bergen monthly flea market and collectible fair is back, a popular staple since its launch in 2018.

This year the market will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the third Saturday of every month, except for September, when it will be held on the third Sunday.

Dates are July 17, August 21, Sept. 19, Oct. 16, Nov. 20, and Dec. 18.

The market is on the sidewalk of Bergenline Ave. outside Braddock Park between 90th and 79th Streets. Find new items, secondhand treasures, collectibles, vintage items, craftwork, and more.

The flea market is hosted by North Bergen Community Policing. Proceeds are donated to the Special Olympics.
