GRAND RAPIDS — The forecast from FOX 17 Meteorologist Anthony Domol: Snow is changing to a wintry mix early this morning from south to north across the viewing area. Many of us particularly from just north of I-96 and southward will shift to all light rain by mid-late morning as temperatures rise into the middle 30s. This pattern of liquid precipitation will not last long, however, as colder air works in from the west turning us back over to snow showers for the late afternoon and evening period. Widespread lake-effect/lake-enhanced snow showers will take us into Sunday. Anticipate slippery road conditions right on through the weekend. Accumulations from the system snow this morning will total 5-6 inches around Grand Rapids. Accumulations from the lake-effect portion of this storm will likely be in the range of 2-3 inches with localized amounts of several inches. Another major factor this afternoon and evening will be the winds which can gust to 40-45 mph, possibly even higher along the lakeshore. Lakeshore Flood Warnings are in effect for the entirety of the Lake Michigan shoreline within our viewing area.
TODAY: Early morning snow shifts to rain then back to snow showers by late afternoon. Highs in the middle to upper 30s. Windy with southeast winds at 15 to 20 mph becoming west/southwest at 20 to 30 mph gusting higher.
TONIGHT: Windy with lake effect/lake enhanced snow showers. Lows in the upper teens to around 20. West winds at 15 to 25 mph gusting higher.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Lake effect/lake enhanced snow showers are possible through the day. Highs in the mid 20s. West/northwest winds at 10 to 20 mph gusting higher.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy with a few flurries or an isolated light snow shower lingering. Highs in the middle 20s.
