FARMINGTON — A day after an apparent suicide attempt by Fotis Dulos, police were at his house Wednesday for a second day.
Dulos, 52, accused of killing his estranged wife, Jennifer Dulos, remains in critical condition and on life support at Jacobi Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y.
Farmington Police Lt. Tim McKenzie declined to comment on whether his medical condition was related to a suicide attempt, but confirmed carbon monoxide was involved.
Dulos went into the garage after a woman who had been at his house left to get groceries Tuesday morning, a source close to Dulos said. According to the source, Fotis Dulos sounded disoriented when he answered a call from a bail bondsman at 10:34 a.m. Tuesday.
Farmington police officers discovered Dulos inside a running Chevy Suburban in his garage around noon.
He was taken to nearby UConn Medical Center in critical condition and later transferred by a LifeStar medical helicopter to the Jacobi Medical Center in New York City. He is being treated in the hospital’s hyperbaric chamber that allows a patient breaths in pure oxygen three times higher than normal air pressure.
A hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday she could not share information on his condition.
Acute carbon monixide poisoning could lead to severe long-term neurological problems, with disturbances in memory, language, cognition, mood and behavior, according to the Mayo Clinic.
On Wednesday, a few officers remained at Dulos’s Farmington house, police dispatcher Tom Sevigny said.
State Police, who have not provided any additional information, said it is part of an ongoing investigation.
Police went to the house after he did not show up at the bond hearing in Stamford. Dulos had face the possibility of going back to jail over an issue with is $6 million bond.
His attorney, Norm Pattis, told NBC News that his client was facing “devastating news” that his $6 million bond could have been revoked.
Dulos' attorneys are scheduled to be back in court Wednesday for a bond hearing.
Fotis Dulos' former girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, and his friend, attorney Kent Mawhinney, are both charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Police said they helped Fotis Dulos try to cover up the killing, including by creating bogus alibis.
