Kim has played his entire professional career in Korea to this point with Busan IPark, which was promoted to K League 1 for the 2020 season after earning promotion from K League 2. Busan IPark struggled on the whole, getting relegated again, but Kim was one of the team's top performers, leading the club in passes, blocks and interceptions while acting as a dynamic attacking fullback. He also has 11 senior caps for South Korea's national team.
LAFC, meanwhile, are looking to bolster a back line that was hampered by inconsistency at times in 2020, and Kim's skillset as a fullback that's not afraid to get forward could make for a good fit in Bob Bradley's system.
