Acadian Companies named Justin Back the new president of Acadian Ambulance Service, Acadian Companies Chairman and CEO Richard Zuschlag announced Wednesday.
Back will succeed Jerry Romero, who is retiring after 44 years with Acadian Companies. Back will take office Nov. 1.
Back will be the fourth president of the company's ambulance division.
“I will miss Jerry Romero’s wise counsel and steady leadership," Zuschlag said. "I wish him best of luck and health in his well-deserved retirement and thank him for his 44 years of loyal service to Acadian. All of the previous presidents played crucial roles in the history and development of Acadian Ambulance Service and I’m confident Justin will continue to build upon the foundation created by his exceptional predecessors.”

Back joined Acadian in 2013 as a vice president and has held leadership positions in areas such as fleet maintenance, regional operations and integrations.
Back, a native of Perth, Australia, graduated from the Royal Military College of Australia and has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern Cross University and a master of business administration from LSU. He has also graduated from the National EMS Academy and is a nationally registered emergency medical technician.
Before working for Acadian, Back was in the Australian Army for eight years and retired as a captain. He was awarded the Australian Army’s Distinguished Service while serving in the Middle East, Central Asia and the Pacific.

Back will join Blane Comeaux, head of Acadian Total Security, and Scott Dominigue, head of Safety Management Systems, as the leaders of Acadian Companies' operating divisions.
“I’m very humbled to have been given the opportunity to serve in this role with our team," Back said. "Ours is a special mission; it takes special people to carry it out. Going into our 50th year next year, I am excited to work with our leadership group to continue to grow Acadian Ambulance."
When Romero announced his plan to retire, the company formed a committee to interview candidates and make a recommendation to Zuschlag. The committee included Romero, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Eddy Dupuis, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer Allyson Pharr and Vice President of Human Resources Joe Lightfoot
“I am very proud of our entire leadership team for rising to each challenge that we have faced throughout the years while building a truly great company," Romero said. "I have confidence that Justin has the skills, knowledge and energy to make our company even greater."
