The Racers are coming off a defeat against Indiana University on Thursday (Sept. 9) but have a chance to pickup a big win against an SEC foe in Kentucky. Murray State enters the match with a 4-2 record on the season and are led offensively by Abby Jones who has three goals and an assist on the year, good enough for an OVC best 7 points. Symone Cooper and Lauren Payne are tied with Jones for the team and OVC lead with three goals each. Hailey Cole leads the OVC with three assists on the year, including a two-assist game against Florida International on September 5th.
Defensively Murray State is led by reigning OVC Defender of the Week Audrey Henry, Reigning OVC Goalkeeper of the Week Jenna Villacres who has 28 saves over the Racers first six games, and Reigning OVC Defender of the Year Izzy Heckman who leads Murray State with seven shots on goal.
Scouting Report
Kentucky comes into the match with a 4-1-2 record on the year coming off a victory over Eastern Kentucky in their last match. Jordyn Rhodes anchors the Wildcats team with her team high seven goals and is tied for the team lead for assists with Miranda Jimenez at three each.
Defensively the Wildcats are led by Goalkeeper Laura Nielsen and her SEC leading 38 saves on the year.
What to Watch for
Sunday's match will be a homecoming for Head Coach Matt Lodge who played for the University of Kentucky Men's Soccer team from 2009-12. Lodge ranks third all-time for the Wildcats in assists and game-winning goals during his career.
