PILSEN — The Pilsen Community Market is returning for the summer later this month.
The market will return 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 23 at Plaza Tenochtitlán, 1821 S. Blue Island Ave. It will feature local businesses.
Local businesses — 90 percent of which are Latina-owned — will sell fresh produce, baked goods, crafts, gifts and more at the market. Pilsen Fest Director Esmirna García said the market aims to showcase the “diverse, handmade products” that support the neighborhood.
Throughout the summer, the Pilsen Community Market will feature a rotation of food trucks and vendors offering eggs, meats, chemical-free produce and more quality foods, too.
The market will be able to host more vendors than last year while still adhering to the city’s reopening guidelines, García said. After last year’s season was interrupted by coronavirus, she is “excited” to welcome more vendors, makers and music.
“We will be able to give the opportunity to the local, independent vendors who are the heart of the local economy,” García said.
The market will offer online shopping with pick-up at the market as well as delivery options through the market’s website.
“We want to make it more accessible to shop local and support independent businesses,” García said.
