Lakers forward Anthony Davis exits after injuring lower back on hard fall - USA TODAY

Anthony Davis may not be leaving Los Angeles anytime soon, but he caused rumbles Tuesday by declining a max contract extension from the Lakers — a formality more than anything else.

Later that night, LeBron James and the rest of his teammates caught a glimpse of what life would look like without AD.

In the third quarter of a 117-87 Lakers victory over the New York Knicks, Davis fell directly on his lower back following an attempt to block a layup from Julius Randle. The 26-year-old remained on the ground and was surrounded by teammates and limped off the court with help. He did not return.

The Lakers called the injury a bruised sacrum, which is a bone lower down the spine located between the two hipbones. Rich Paul, Davis' agent, told reporters during the game that his client was feeling sore but X-Rays were negative.

"His mood was great, as great as it can be with the fall that he took," James said of Davis after the game. "I asked him if I could do anything for him. He said, 'You got a win for me.' That’s what our team is all about."

Davis will undergo an MRI on Wednesday and will miss the the upcoming roadtrip to Oklahoma City and Dallas to rehab.
