The Game
After a hard-fought loss to seventh-ranked Cincinnati last week, the Murray State football will look to bounce back at FBS Bowling Green Saturday. Kick-off from Doyt Perry Stadium is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT with the game being broadcast on ESPN3 and Froggy 103.7 FM.
The Series At A Glance
Saturday will be the second all-time meeting between Murray State and Bowling Green. The only other previous meeting between the schools was in 2013, when the Falcons topped the Racers, 48-7.
Scouting The Falcons
Bowling Green has had a rough start to the season, as it enters Saturday at 0-2. The Falcons hung tough for a half in their opener at Tennessee, but eventually fell, 38-6. Last week, BGSU dropped a heartbreaker to South Alabama, 22-19, on a last second field goal.
The Falcons currently average 12.0 points per game on 268.0 yards, while allowing 30.0 points on 421.0 yards. Bowling Green has relied heavily on the pass this season with 247.5 yards coming in the air, compared to just 20.5 on the ground. Meanwhile, their opponents have split time fairly equally between the pass and run with 201.0 and 220.0 yards per game, respectively.
Offensively, for the Falcons, Matt McDonald leads the way at quarterback, throwing for 247.5 yards per game with one touchdown and no interceptions. Defensively, Darren Anders has a team-high 22 tackles with 2.0 tackles-for-loss, 1.0 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one quarterback hurry.
A Win Saturday Would...
A win Saturday would give the Racers their first victory over an FBS team since defeating Louisville in 1984.
Striking First
Murray State's 7-0 lead last Saturday at Cincinnati was its first lead over an FBS team since the Racers held a 7-6 first quarter lead over Northern Illinois in 2015. It was also the first time since 2014 that the Racers scored first against an FBS team, when they did so against Missouri.
Holding Their Own
The 45 points scored by the Bearcats are fewest by a Murray State FBS opponent since Louisville scored 22 in 2011.
