The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have started their spring practice. For college football fans, it’s the second best time of year after the start of the football season itself. The start of spring practice was delayed a week because of multiple positive COVID-19 tests, as the article mentions. The spring game is set for April 23rd as mentioned here.
For those who would like to see some visual highlights from the Yellow Jackets spring practice, this article features just that. It includes photos from the practice as well as a video of head coach Geoff Collins’ press conference. I like the ACC Champions hat that Collins was “rocking” during the press conference. Looking forward to the football version of that.
Attention to detail would definitely be an area of improvement the Yellow Jackets football team could make. Particularly as it pertains to penalties. Tech was next to last in the ACC in penalties last season; only Florida State fared worse. Tech’s 119th ranking in FBS out of 127 teams in penalty yardage that the article points out provides a pretty good glimpse at just how bad the team was last season. Interestingly, last season was a step back for the team in what was Collins’ second season — during his first season the team fared well in the penalties department. Though, granted, the offense did make huge strides last season, it’s not going to help the team if they can’t clean up their play. During the team’s opening practice yesterday, there were plenty of officials on the field tallying the number of penalties committed. Hopefully, the team can focus on improving in this area.
On Saturdays the team will have open practices for those who are interested.
