The Blackhawks bounced back with a 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Thursday at American Airlines Center.
Here are 10 observations from the win:
1. The Blackhawks may have won pretty handily, but this isn't exactly the type of response they were expecting after Tuesday's 6-1 loss, at least from a performance standpoint. They were outshot 30-16 and had only eight shots on goal through the first 45 minutes. Nonetheless, the Blackhawks will take the two points and run.
2. Here's a look at the final numbers: The Blackhawks had 37 shot attempts, 16 shots on goal and 10 5-on-5 scoring chances. The Stars had 59 shot attempts, 30 shots on goal and 22 5-on-5 scoring chances, according to Natural Stat Trick.
3. The Blackhawks scored four goals on their first eight shots of the game for a shooting percentage of 50. The Stars didn't score their first goal until shot No. 26. Hockey is weird.
4. The Blackhawks obviously don't win this game without the play of Kevin Lankinen, who had given up nine goals in his past two starts. He had a terrific bounce-back performance by stopping the first 25 shots he faced against the Stars and finishing with 28 saves on 30 shots for a save percentage of .933.
5. Duncan Keith scored his first goal of the season while Alex DeBrincat scored his team-leading 15th, but the net-front presence by Carl Soderberg and Pius Suter on each goal shouldn't go unnoticed. Anton Khudobin couldn't see either shot and the Blackhawks scored twice in a span of 1:33 to make it 4-0, which essentially put a stranglehold on the game.
6. The Blackhawks were a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill, which included a 5-on-3 man advantage for 35 seconds at the end of the season period. They were 14-for-27 on the penalty kill over their previous nine games. This was finally a step in the right direction.
7. The Stars committed four penalties in the second period. The Blackhawks made them pay on two of their opportunities and went 2-for-5 on the power play overall. The Blackhawks were 3-for-16 in their previous seven games.
8. The Stars had their way with the Blackhawks again in the first period. They led in shot attempts (26-11), shots on goal (15-4), scoring chances (14-6) and high-danger chances, according to Natural Stat Trick. But it was the visiting team that led in the most important category and that's the scoreboard (1-0).
9. Dominik Kubalik had a slow start to the season with only three goals in his first 16 games but has turned it around in the goal department as of late. He scored his seventh goal in his last 12 games and notched his 10th of the season, becoming the third Blackhawk to hit the double-digit mark this season. DeBrincat (15) and Patrick Kane (12) are the others.
10. The Blackhawks improved to 10-1-2 in the second game of a series this season and made it nine straight wins.
